A while ago I started work on a series of "transcriptions" of pieces by Lassus and Frescobaldi for piano duet so that I could play them with a friend. I have just recently finished the transcriptions and am publishing them as a book on Scotchsnap.New Piece - Etude "Progressional" solo piano
Tue 30th December 2008
As a piece of fun I've written a piece for solo piano called Etude "Progressional". The piece is incredibly difficult and aimed at the Ian Pace school of performers. As a taster, here is the program note:"This piece is insanely difficult. The idea behind it is based on Ligeti's notion of a non-systematic progression, in other words a process that represents a systematic transformation (getting more and more complicated etc.) but is actually quite vague in its parameters. To that end, being able to perform all the pitches notated is not essential for a good realisation of the piece, more that a sense of progression is achieved from start to finish. The piece is deliberately obtuse and can best be described as "mental" or "ridiculous" or perhaps "flamboyant" or just "insane". Good luck!"
