Edward Caine, Composer

About Me

Edward Caine (MA) was brought up in Scotland, attended Ackworth School, West Yorkshire with a joint Art and Music scholarship, then completed a BA in Music at Durham University where he studied composition under Dr. Paul Archbold and worked with compsosers Fabrice Fitch and Martyn Harry. Edd then moved to York, where he completed an MA in Composition at the University of York under Prof. Roger Marsh, where e is now studying for a PhD in Music Composition.

In addition to his studies, Edd works as Projects Manager for Late Music as Assistant for publisher UYMP as Welfare Tutor and Music Tutor for Vanbrugh College, University of York, freelance Jazz pianist and Piano Teacher as well as Web designer/programmer. He also performs and organises new music group cat•er•waul and teaches adult evening classes for the University of York Centre for Lifelong Learning.

Edd's work focusses on sonority, collaboration, the mechanism of performance post-serialistic pitch structures found material. Amongst his influences are György Ligeti, Salvatore Sciarrino, Georges Aperghis and Helmut Lachenmann.

Edd has worked with the following ensembles and performers: Black Hair Ensemble, Alison Wells, Gemini Ensemble, Chimera, YoMAMA choir, Veriditas Opera, Fitzwilliam String Quartet, Ossian Ensemble, Nora Ryan, Ian Pace, TOEAC Accordion Duo, Rika Zayasu, Nieuw Ensemble, Trio Atem, Charlotte Bishop, Damien and Maria Harron, Bright Cecilia, Vanbrugh Voices, Vanbrugh Ensemble, Kreutzer Quartet and Brake Drum Percussion.
